Parta |
Parta sighed as she piered out over the dunes of Wild River. Red/Pink Vissa, the current clutch's dam, was curled around her small clutch of eight. Parta curled her around about her chest and glanced down at the tiny hatchling she had sitting on it. She'd never seen a flit without wings, but it certainly was beautiful. Her father, Planor, had gotten it for her the last time he had went to get supplies from the other islands. He said it was from someplace called Sibian Cliffs, but she had never heard of it. Vissa glanced up at Parta while she was occupied with her little hatchling. "Dear, do you want to hhelp me with this egg?" Vissa called. "I think this one might be a dud so I'd like it off to the side. I've got to keep this ones warm, so...could you move it?" |
Parta smiled, "I'll be glad, but couldn't your mate do it?" "Jumar's flying with Tia and V'ral," Vissa sighed. "He won't be back for sometime. That little one right there. Move it to the side of the dunes near the back wall." Parta set her hands on the thick shell of the bright green egg, and it gave a sudden jolt, "Vissa, this egg isn't a dud. It just..." "I know, but the hatchling won't be strong enough to hatch," Vissa sighed. 'But, if we get a bonder like the one we had last time.... Leave it there." Parta nodded, giving the egg on last pat as she turned to go back into the Caer's Lower Halls. Jedayi rushed into the dunes cave, skidding to a halt in front of Parta. "Nactara says that Z'ran wants to take you back to Utopian with him," Jedayi cried. "He says there's a clutch there that you would enjoy." "I would enjoy?" Parta sighed. "I don't know what Z'ran is thinking. I'll have to go talk to him." Parta started towards the Caer, but Jedayi caught her dress in her mouth, "I don't think you want to do that." The wolf muttered in a muffled voice. Laughing, Parta sighed, pulling her dress from Jedayi, "All right, but if you do that again, I'm going to have a hole in this dress." Jedayi chuckled, "Well, rather a hole in your dress than..." Parta grinned as the wolf stopped short, "I'll go talk to him later. Besides, Dad wants me to help prepare for the Festival of Lights." "Planor's in the Entrance Hall of the Caer," Jedayi sighed. "He had a big box with him, too." "Those are probably the decorations," Parta said, smiling. "I'll talk to Z'ran later." *** "I wondered if you were coming or not," Planor laughed as Parta bound down the hall. "Staring at the dunes again?" "You say that as though that's all I do," Parta sighed. "But, yes, that's what I was doing." "I'm sure Vissa didn't mind," Planor sighed as he pulled a long stream of lights from his box. "Do you want to help me with these or what?" "Okay," Parta sighed as she took the lights. "Where do you want them?" "Above the Entrance Way," Planor said. "It want people to be greeted by warm light as they enter from the cold, black night." Parta scoffed at her Dad's poetic outburst as she carefully tucked the lights behind the overhang of the door, letting the ends dang at the side of the entrance. Planor handed her another string, and she extended the hang by a few inches. Just then, Z'ran bound into the Hall. "Parta!" Z'ran shrieked. "Didn't Jedayi tell you to come and find me?" "Yes," Parta said, not turning from her work. "She told me, but she also told me what you were doing at the moment." Z'ran cleared his throat and blushed, "Well, um, all right. I...well, Peukth wants you to come back with us to Utopian." "What for?" Parta sighed. "Casero is usaully the one who picks who goes where." "He thinks this is a great idea!" Z'ran exclaimed as Peukth rumbled outside. "Come on, Parta!" *** Parta sighed as she stood in the stands, admiring the large multidragon clutch. She had never seen more than one dragon on the dunes together, but this was special. A special place, a special clutch, for special people. She was special enough to be here. She smiled to herself as she sat to watch the mothers tend to their clutches. *** Parta groaned as Solar asked her about Danach and how it operated and what it would be like to have a dragon, and so on. Parta tried not to get too annoyed. Obviously the several times she had told Solar she was Alskyran and not Danachian hadn't hit the girl, yet. She glanced back out at the Dunes, noticing that several of the eggs had started to rock. She smiled. It was going to happen soon. Parta watched as several dragons hatched. These dragons were oddly colored, but that didn't bother Parta. She knew it happened sometimes when more than ne dragon flew at a time, even when only one flew. Halfway through the hatching, two dragons hatched together. One was a hazy purple with cream bursts on its hide, and the other was a cloudy indigo color. The purple walked over to Aeiou, looking up at her with her deep eyes. Were you really raised by caerlizards? "Oh, yes, Feindreth, of course I was!" Aeiou said, giggling. Then why are you laughing? Parta smiled as the indigo walked over, butting her softly, Yes, why is she laughing? "'Cause she's having fun of course, Sableuxth," answered Parta absentmindedly. Well sor-ry for being curious. By the way, if you took your eyes off the dunes for a moment, I'm sure you'd find me much more attractive to stare at. Parta looked down at her cloudy indigo dragon and smiled. "You're right!" I thought so, Sableuxth crooned softly. Parta smiled, "Sableuxth, that certainly is a mouthful. It could be dangerous to have to say that in an emergency. How about Sab for short?" Sounds good, Sab laughed, butting Parta again. Now that that's settled, can we get some food? "Of course, Sab," Parta said, placing her hand gently on the hatchling's back. COntinue... |
