Small Crocheted Heart
(very easy)

© 2001 by Ambar Enid Alcalá

Materials used:
Red worsted weight yarn and a
Size H,  5.00mm hook

Instructions:

Chain 4.  Now, you're going to work the WHOLE heart,  all in the same stitch.
The first three skipped chains count as your beginning double crochet.

1 double crochet in the 4th chain from hook,1 half double crochet, slip stitch, 1 half double crochet, 4 double crochets, 1 treble (or triple) crochet, end by making two MORE double crochets and joining with a slip stitch in the begining chain 3.

You should have then, a total of twelve stitches, including the beginning chain.

For a larger heart:

Consider as a round two this: Round 2- Chain 2, double crochet in same stitch, 2 double crochet in next stitch, double crochet and half double crochet in next stitch, slip stitch in next stitch, half double crochet and double crochet in next stitch, 2 double crochets in each of the next 4 stitches; treble crochet, chain 1, treble crochet in the next stitch; 2 double crochet in each of the last two stitches, and join with a slip stitch in the begining of your chain 2. Finish off and weave in the ends.
Also, to give it form, pull on the chain 2 at the bottom of the heart, between the two treble crochets. That will make it nice and pointy! I hope you like one, too, as you have all liked the small one. God's best!

Note: You're using a chain 2 instead of a chain 3 at the beginning of your round two so that your heart will be as tight as possible, without a hole there at the beginning of the round.

Here's a scan of the larger heart:

Uses:

Frigdies- glue on a magnet.

Pony tail holders (fill up an elastic pony tail holer with lots of single crochets, preferably in some contrasting color, like white, or black, or blue.  make your small heart and tie to the holder, weave in the ends.)  Tie or glue to a barret, too.

Sneakers (or tennis shoes)- Use instead of pom poms:tie to the shoe laces.  Or, make your hearts with thread, then glue (with the OK to Wash kind) or sew to the canvas.

Use thread hearts to glue on note cards, or put on earrings, or sew to T-shirts, skirts, hats, and jeans Tie to a pin backing and hand out to your classmates.  Make with Lustersheen (cabled sport weight thread), add a long ribbon, and it makes a quick bookmark.

Use thinner thread, like size 20, 30, or 40, and you have miniature tie backs for your doll house.  Just make a chain to tie the curtains with.  If you use sport weight yarn, then you can make two, sew together, and you have miniature throw cushions for your miniature house.  Lots of them sewed together will give you a miniature afghan.

Use different color yarns or threads, or even multicolors!
