:o) This page is still under construction.

Okay, what this strange title is supposed to convey is that you can make a plain granny square look a little bit more serious, or stately, if you add a row or two of single crochet. Your granny square will be more square, and a bit more firm, too. Here is what it should look like:

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS :

Each Chain 3 at the beginning of a round is counted as the first double crochet.
You can also use a chain2 instead of chain 3 at the beginning of each round.

A chain-1 at the beginning of a round is NOT considered a single crochet. It is only used to give height so you don't have a lopsided single crochet.
Start with a Chain 4, slip stitch into the first chain in order to form a ring.

ROUND 1 Chain 3, then make 2 double crochets into the ring, *chain 2, 3 double crochets*. Repeat after the '*' 2 more times, end round by doing a chain-1, then ONE single crochet into the third chain of your beginning chain3. You now have 12 double crochets, and 4 chain-2 spaces.

ROUND 2 Chain 3, 2 double crochet in the same space, chain 1, *(3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in the next chain-2 space, chain 1*. Repeat from * to * 2 MORE times. To end the round, do 3 double crochet in the same space as the first double crochet, chain 1, and do a single crochet in the first double crochet (forms your last chain-2 space). You now have 24 double crochets, with 8 spaces.

ROUND 3 Chain 1, 2 single crochet in the same corner space. *Single crochet in back loop of each double crochet and in back loop of each chain space until you reach the corner space, then 2 single crochet, chain 2, 2 single crochet.* Repeat instructions from * to * until you reach the beginning Chain-2 space, and end by doing 2 single crochet in space, chain 1, and a single crochet in beginning single crochet.
