| Currently, just the water shut off causing water to be trucked in from Mapleton will cost the town a lot. In the future, the cost of water will even be more staggering due to the price raises of water by the water company.. The town's major revenue income, the fishing contest, that was to bring in around a thousand or more tourist has been cancelled. Businesses have already bought a surplus of goods expecting them to be sold. Inorder to pay for these extra goods, business owners had to take out loans. Now what are they to do? Loans need to be paid and goods need to besold. Even non-profit organization that were planning to hold | |||||||||||||||||
| fundraiser will not be able to have that extra revenue. Also, who is going to pay for the dam improvements? The taxpayers of Riverwood have come with ideas to help ease the financial problems. If the expanding the reservoir idea passes, local citizens can help out and donate time digging out soil, making lunches, and providing equipment. This will ease the need for workers. The less workers needed, the less to pay. What about a carnival? Fliers could be posted throughout town and nearby towns noticing people about the event. Citizens could donate food, their time and the town would gain the profits. What about corperate sponsers? Many large companies donate cash to organizations. If we get a corperate sponser, the company will get some advertising rights, and the town will get paid for it. |

| The fishing contest does not exactly have to be permitly cancelled. If we act now, fish from the reservoir and up stream who were not affected by the fish kill could be caught and placed in the stream downstream of the dam. This way there will be fish for the fishing contest. The businesses can still have their goods sold and the town could place a tax on goods increasing the town budget. Everyone will benifit. The people get their fishing and the town and businesses get their money. To promote the fishing contest, posters could be made and local radio stations could annouce the event. So yes, we are in trouble, but we can surely get out of it. |
