Family Visit

Spend the day with a Gambian family. Meet the children, see how they cook their food and have lunch with them. The day starts when you meet the wife in your host family at Serrekunda Market as she does the shopping for your lunch. Note the items she buys and the way she bargains.

Then travel with her to her home where the children and other members of the family are waiting to welcome you.

After settling down with a cold drink, you will briefly observe how the mother is preparing your lunch. Then you can settle down under a tree or in a spacious room to play some indoor games. The mother will call you to the kitchen at every crucial stage of the cooking. At lunch time you will be free to try eating with your hand Gambian style.

Cultural Ceremonies
See how Gambians christen (or name) their children, one week after birth. Or attend a mock wedding ceremony.

A Day with the Griots

The Griots are the oral historians and musicians who narrate stories about our past - our living archives. Spend a day with them to see how they play their musical instruments. You will be given the opportunity to try playing them.
