Memorable Matches of All-time

I briefly want to talk about some games that meant a lot for this team since it's inception in the late 1940's. I will further get into Pakistan's cricketing past with some memorable games. However, avoiding Pakistan vs. India matches since there another story within themselves.

Pakistan vs. Ceylon (2 test matches 1949)

Well, the first of four series I want to get into is the maiden series Pakistan had in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) Colombo. They played two test matches the first one April, 1, 1949 consisted of a maximum of three days. Our players came up big and destroyed our opposition easily. Starting the innings with 1-0 wicket claimed by Khan Muhammad got us on top. The second test consisted of 4-days and again Pakistan came out on top even though Ceylon’s improved performance.

This series will forever be remembered as the one which kicked off the beginning of our national team. What makes it so special was we had a team in the most depressing times in Southeast Asia because of the difficult partition of India and Northern India (which is now Pakistan). However, being able to concentrate on anything but your personal lives during these times is a major feat within itself.

Pakistan vs. England (4 test matches 1954)

The next major series was in 1955 when Pakistan toured England for the first time. Not only was England the King of Cricket just playing against them would be an honour. Our boys had a tough time having the first match drawn, getting demolished in the second match, drawing the third, and squeaking by a victory in the final match levelling the series 1-1. Our character and determination got us through these very tough matches.
