Sun: I meet L and E in Causeway Bay at about noon, and we take MTR and walk to the ferry boat terminal in Central, where we find Terminal No. 4 and board a boat to Lamma Island. It is a beautiful day--mild, breezy, sunny. The boat ride over to Lamma takes about 45 minutes. Cost is $18HK (about $2.40). There is lots of boat traffic--ferries, container ships, fishing boats, etc. We head west from the ferry terminal which is on the north side of HK Island, and Lamma Island is a couple miles off the west end of HK Island. The boat pulls into SKW harbor. There is a small marina area with restaurants right on waterfront behind the boats, and a small residential area behind the restaurants. We walk down the line of restaurants. All have live seafood/fish in tanks. You select which one you want to eat. We go to Rainbow. It is very large, the biggest restaurant. With help of L we select a XXX fish, which will be steamed, chinese greens, fried squid, rice. It takes a while for the food to come, but when it does it is very very good. We are sitting at edge of the deck right on/over water. There are lots of ferries, fishing boats in marina area. What a different lifestyle here than in HKI! After we eat we walk down past restaurants to beach area. There are no swimmers, but there are pathways that take you to other parts of island. I want to try, but L and E do not have walking shoes on. |
We head back, and take a different ferry to Aberdeen. It is a short ride. I think the cost was only $5HK. The Aberdeen Harbor looks small at the entrance but goes way back. I later realize that the land on the right is an island, and the waterway returns to the sea. There are lots of fishing boats. The marina/docking area is VERY crowded. The boat finds its place, and we disembark. We then take the bus back to Causeway Bay. About 15 minutes. After arriving in Causeway Bay we find a $10 store (similar to our $1 stores, actually about $1.25). We wander thru and I pick-up some items for apartment. L and E also pick-up some things for their place. I Say goodbye to L and E, and go back to home. Later I go to Mong Kok MTR, and meet MK for dinner. MK is an internet friend, and grad student--biology. We go to XXX restaurant. It is a very nice and elegant dinner, but we order too much food! We then walk into a nearby shopping area known as "Women's Street". It is similar to a flea market, but much much larger. Most of booths/stalls are clothing, small electronics, leather goods, etc. Lots of similar stuff. We walk back towards the MTR on a parallel street. So many lights, people, activity. Does the city ever sleep? We reach the MTR and say goodbye, and I head back home. |
