Biome Project

By now you have all selected a particular biome
Due Date : May 11 with two presentation per day starting May 11 2009.
An initial assessment will be on May 6 so as to see how along, or well you have progressed.

The biomes are as follows:
  1. Pacific Rain Forest: British Columbia coast
  2. Wetlands: Hudson Bay region or South Florida
  3. Grasslands: Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba
  4. Desert: American southwest
  5. Tiaga: Coniferous Boreal Forest
  6. Temperate Deciduous Forest
  7. Tundra: The Artic Region of Canada
  8. Alpine regions: Rocky mountains
  9. Chaparal Mediteranian: south part of Calafornia, costal regions
  10. Aquatic Marine either east coast or west coast of Canada

Each individual should contibute to the overall development , data collection and presentation (both verbal & visual display).
Power Point is NOT advised.

General Outline: Division of Tasks

Try to follow these points and develope your project in the exact order described below.

  1. Your project and presentation should start with an introduction which should include a brief description as to what you will be writing/talking about. Include a map of your biome so that the reader/listeners know where the biome is.

  2. Climate that encompasses your biome. Weather trends and patterns and how it dicatates the life forms found in the biome, Indicate the temperature ranges and rainfall and/or snowfall.

  3. Find a make a list of as many animals, fish, birds, reptiles etc. that you would find in your biome. Make sure you have herbivores and carnivores.
    Create a food web of your selections.

  4. Main types of vegetation (flora) found in your biome. Make sure you give specific names. For example don't say tree when you actually mean a maple tree

  5. Types of soil in this biome

  6. A discussion of the indigenous peoples of the biome, who they are, tribal names and how they survived in the biome.

  7. Mankinds influence ==> how people have changed the biome
    What destructive asspects have been introduced? What steps are being taken to protect and mend your biome?
    How mankind has caused extinction, endangerment etc. for species in your biome. List any extinct species that once were prevalent.
    Pollutions and human settlement, development in the biome; comment.

  8. Future of the area; is it healthy or headed for a biological disaster?
    This should lead into your concluding statements or wrap-up.

Presentation Board

Should contain the following elements
  1. A picture of each of your animals which leads to
  2. A food web
  3. A map with biome shaded in
  4. Indicate the indigenous peoples that lived in your biome, pictures and living areas.
