Rurouni Kenshin is one of my favorite anime/manga. A story of a former hitokiri (assassin) who regrets killing so many people in the past that he swears never to kill again and becomes a rurouni (wanderer), using his sword only to help those in need. Then, one day, after years of wandering, he meets a girl who changes his life forever. But things aren't so easily settled for him. No matter how hard he tries to lead a new peaceful life, he often finds himself facing danger. And in order to protect the ones he loves, he must fight not only the threat but also a battle within himself.
That's the story. I had such a wonderful journey through all 28 volumes of the manga the first time I read it that I can't help but read it over and over again. The characters are so natural and they really develop as the story progresses.

the kenshin gumi

Don't you love them?

I have a lot to say about characters. They are so alive. So real. You just can't  read or watch the whole thing without falling for them. At first they seem just characters. But soon I realized that I do care about them. I love them and want them to be happy. After all they've been through, I'm glad they have a happy ending. The Kenshin gumi are four lonely souls who need others to fill the empty spaces in their hearts. Together they make a perfect family.
I guess I should really start telling you about RK. You're probably bored with my babbling already. The first season of RK mostly focuses on introducing the characters. The anime episodes are usually lighthearted, except for the more serious fights with Jine, Raijuta, or Aoshi, which also appear in the manga. The second season begins with a fight with Saitoh in manga vol. 7 and anime vol. 28. The story is similar in both manga and anime. It is about defeating Shishio and saving Japan. These episodes are quite serious and gripping, with a lot of fighting. But don't worry, hilarious scenes are not hard to find at all.

After Shishio, the manga continues right with the "Revenge" story line. And things start to get very serious (and maybe a bit dark) when the brother of Kenshin's late wife attempts to avenge her death. We also get to know more about Kenshin's past when he was the legendary Hitokiri Battousai. This last season, starting from manga vol. 18, however, has the happiest ending, and that kinda make up for the really bad things that happened. About the third season of the anime, I'm sorry to say that I know nothing about it.^_^; I haven't watched all 95 episodes yet but I'll write about it as soon as I can. You know, the anime is great, but it's the manga that makes me love RK this much. If you haven't read it yet, go find yourself all 28 books. You won't be disappointed.
What else could I say about Rurouni Kenshin? It's just one terrific story. I found myself smiling, laughing, crying, and holding my breath, as I flipped page by page. It felt wonderful. I can proudly tell the world that I love it, I love it, I love it! And if I ever stop being crazy about it, I'm sure I would still cherish the memory.
