The Appeal issued by Revered Swami Gokulanandaji Maharaj
Dear Friends,
Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi Centre was established in its own premises at Paharganj in October, 1935. The foundation stone of the temple with the shrine was laid by Srimat Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj, the seventh President of the Ramakrishna Order on November 5, 1954 as part of the Holy Mother’s Birth Centenary celebrations. The construction of the temple took three years and on completion of the construction, it was formally consecrated after an elaborate dedication ceremony held for four days from November 27 to November 30, 1957. The consecration and Pran Pratistha of the image of Sri Ramakrishna was performed by Srimat Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj on November 28, 1957 in the presence of a large number of monks and devotees from all over the country as well as a number of distinguished persons. This year, therefore, marks the Golden Jubilee of the consecration of the temple.
The temple has come to occupy a significant and prominent place in the spiritual and cultural life of the people of Delhi. A number of activities – for which the Order has been acknowledged as one of the foremost organization providing quality educational services, medical relief and meeting the spiritual and religious needs of the people - have evolve round the temple at the New Delhi Centre. T B Clinic and Medical Centre with a Mobile Medical Van reaching out to the poor and the marginal people, free Homeopathy clinic, regular lectures and discourses on religious scriptures, programmes on Value Based Education are some of the regular features of the Centre. Its permanent exhibitions on Swamiji and the Holy Mother draw regular visitors who get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the lives of these great souls.
It is considered that this occasion marking the Golden Jubilee of the consecration of the temple should be celebrated in a befitting manner which should also be an occasion to renew our pledge to dedicate ourselves to the service of the people especially to the poor and the downtrodden. It is a matter of great honour and satisfaction that the Most Revered Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj, the 14th President of the Order has kindly consented to grace the celebrations.
