Vocal Recital rendered by Dr. Subhadra Desai from Delhi
On 19th November, 2007 Smt. Subhadra Desai presented vocal recital in her captivating voice. She presented Nirguna and Saguna Bhajans.
Dr. Subhadra Desai's music is characterized by a graceful voice and meditative timbre. Her repertoire includes Khayal, Sagun and Nirgun bhajans and Tappa. A senior disciple of Pt. Madhup Mudgal, Subhadra was initiated in Hindustani Classical music by Pt. Vinay Chandra Maudgalya and Smt. Padma Devi.
Shubhadra is an empanelled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations(ICCR), All India Radio and Doordarshan. She has been a regular performer at the music festivals in India and abroad notable of which are Pt. Vishnu Digambar Jayanti, HCL Concert Series, Teen Murti House, Chinmaya Mission, India International Centre, Inda Habitat Centre in New Delhi and Bharatiya Sanskrit Samsad-Kolkata, Nalanda Mahotsav -Nalanda etc. Shbhdra has performed in Korea and Germany.
Shubhadra’s Knowledge of Sanskrit also enables her to identify appropriate selections from ancient texts and compose them in classical Ragas. Some of her theme–based recitals have been on:
Advaita-the Indian philosophy of non-dualism or oneness of God and creation. Lately she produced a CD album named ADVAITA which was jointly released by Revered Swami Gokulanandji Maharaj and Smt. Shiela Dikshit Chief Minister of Delhi on 18th March, 2007. Subhadra has composed and sung Buddhist texts in Sanskrit and Pali (in classical Ragas), on several occasions and for different organizations notably the Tibet House, New Delhi (in the presence of His Holiness Dalai Lama), International Buddhist Conclave (held in New Delhi and Bodh Gaya, organized by Central Govt., Department of Tourism and Culture) and Nalanda..
Subhadra is the first recipient of the coveted "Mani Mann National Fellowship" for young artists for the year 2005. She also received the Sahitya Kala Parishad scholarship for young artist in 1990. She received Gold Medal for outstanding achievement at the "Korea Spring Festival" in 1999.
In addition to being an established vocalist of the new generation, Subhadra is also a Sanskrit Scholar. Her Doctoral Thesis is on the subject "Musical Heritage of Valmiki's Ramayana".
Subhadra has been associated with Delhi centre of Ramakrishna Mission since childhood. She was initiated by Revered Srimat Swami Vireshwaranandaji Maharaj and had the privilege of being blessed by great monks such as Swami Ranganathanandaji, Swami Buddhanandaji, Swami Swahanadaji, Swami Gokulanandaji and many others.
