Vocal Recital by Smt.Vani Jairam, Mumbai
On 18th November, 2007 in Cultural programme session in the evening Smt. Vani Jairam presented vocal recital with Hindi and Bengali devotional songs. All present there enjoyed the session.
An Introduction
Vani Jairam needs no introduction to the music lovers. Nearly 18 hours of daily routine of learning and riaz enabled Vani to assimilate the intricate techniques of Thumri, Bhajan and Ghajal singing.
Veteran music director Shri Vasanta Desai introduced Vani in the Marathi songs. Vani received 5 awards including Tansen award for her voice as play back singer for the famous song Bol Re Papi Hara in the film Guddi in the year 1971.She then sang for almost all great music director of the film industry viz. Naushad, Madan Mohan, O.P.Nayar, R.D.Burman, Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Jaidev and many others. She has the privilege of singing duet with stalwarts like Md. Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Mahendra Kapoor. Music Directors from south India like M.S.Viswanathan, K.V.Mahadevan, Vijay Bhaskar, M.K.Arjun and Dakshinamurthy invited her for singing in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malyalam films. In the year 1980 Vani received film fare award for best female singer for the film “Meera”. She has received many awards from different state Govt. bodies. She also received from the President of India – National Award for best film singer for the Telugu film “Swatikiranam” in the year 1992.
Vani has recorded nearly 10,000 songs. She has been recording plenty of devotional and light classical music cassettes. She had the privilege of working with veterans like “Kathak Maestro” Pt. Birju Maharaj. Vani had the rare honour of Guru Keluchran Mahopatra accompanying her on pakhwaj for her receording of Jayadeva’s “Geetha Govindam” composed in Odissi style.
As a Bhajan singer Vani is giving Live concerts all over India and abroad bringing life to life the immortal lyrics of many poets including Tulsidas, Kabir, Surdas, Meera, Jayadev, Thukaram, Annayamayya, Purandra Dasa and Bharatiyar. Vani participated in all the major music festivals of India like “Badri Kedar Festival”, Ganga Mahotsav -Varanasi, Meera Utsav- Chittorgarh, Dover Lane Festival – Calcutta and Swami Haridas Festival – Vrindaban.
Vani gave 8 concerts in U.K for London Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 16 concerts in USA in the year 1989 and 16 houseful concerts in UK again in 1994. She has performed in Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Baharin, Qatar, Muscat, Nepal, France, Germany, Switzerland and Norway. She has also performed at the famous Lincon Centre in 2000 for Bharatya Vidya Bhavan, New York in their Millennium Celebrations.
