The armory was built to be used by the Varnum Continentals. They still hold meetings in the armory and there is also a Military Museum.

World War I Memorial

The World War I Memorial is located in front of the Kent County Courthouse on Main Street. A wreath is laid there on Memorial Day.

Greenwich Odeum 1926

Greenwich Odeum

This building used to be called the Greenwich Theater. It was used as a movie theater which showed silent films in the beginning. The theater's name is now the Greenwich Odeum and plays are performed there.

Parks and Recreation Department Building 1926

The building was originally a school that was built to replace four district schools that were in the area. The land and the buildings from the five district schools were put up for public auction in July of 1929.

James H. Eldredge School 1927

James H. Eldredge School

This school was named after James Henry Eldredge. He had been a doctor and a member of the town council. He must have been well liked in the town because he had died over twenty five years before the school was named after him.

World War II Memorial 1949

The World War II Memorial is at the playing field in front of James H. Eldredge School. A gun salute is fired there on Memorial Day.

Jigger's Diner 1950

Jigger's Diner

The diner was first established in 1918. The building that the diner is now in is a Worcester #846. It was built then brought to East Greenwich by train like many other diners of its time. In 1950, the building was placed on its present site.

Archie R. Cole Junior High School

This school was built in the 1950's to serve as the high school for East Greenwcih. At the time that the land for the school was bought Archie R. Cole was the superintendent of schools. He had been given that position in 1948. In 1981, the school was dedicated for Archie R. Cole who had served the district for 26 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent.

George R. Hanaford School 1958-1959

George R. Hanaford School

The school was named after George R. Hanaford who was born in 1874 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was a graduate of East Greenwich Academy. In 1910 and 1911, he was a representative and he was the senator from East Greenwich to the Rhode Island Senate in 1912. He was the president of the Town Council from 1932 to 1944. In 1948, George R. Hanaford died and left a large sum of money to be used to support the schools in this town.
