Impressive stands of Dicksonia antarctica and Cyathea australis may be seen in many forest gullies throughout the more hilly parts of Victoria. However, Sassafras Creek Reserve in the Dandenong Ranges, about 40 km east of Melbourne, is an ideal location to see C. cunninghamii and C. marcescens, along with the other two more common species. There are many kilometres of tracks in the area, some in fairly poor condition, many quite boggy in wetter months, but one of the best areas to see all four species is probably between Beagleys Bridge (Mel. 124 A1) and Kays Picnic Ground (Mel. 124 D3).
