About 170 km east of Melbourne on the Princes Highway is the small township of Traralgon and the turnoff to Tarra-Bulga National Park, which is another 40 or so kilometres south. The park can also be approached from Yarram to the south.
Tarra Valley is especially worth visiting for its abundance of very tall Cyathea cunninghamii, and a number of C. marcescens, along with some dense groves of massive specimens of Dicksonia antarctica  and C. australis. As well as completing the short walking track at Tarra Valley, a stroll along the road itself in either direction from the main car park will reward you with many opportunities to photograph some very impressive treeferns (as you will have observed no doubt on the drive in).
