Many words used in Jaffna in relation to architecture and built environment have been
included In this glossary. However it covers only a fraction of such terms. In fact it is
not a systematic collection. In future it is intended to develop it more systematically
and comprehensively. Visitors are welcome to
suggest any suitable words that are not included here. The
terms included here are organized in five divisions, namely Building Types,
Spatial Elements, Components, Activities
and Environment. The contents include the transliteration of the words,
the word in Tamil alphabets and the meaning or explanation in English. In each division
the words are arranged in alphabetical order based on the transliteration
of the words.
