Private Jeremiah Smith, Co. C

From an e-mail I received on Feb. 22, 1999:

Dear Mr. Baker,

My Grandfather served in the 39th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, and he is listed in Co. C. His name was Jeremiah Smith, and he was a private. He was born in 1844 and died in 1917. He served from Nov. 8, 1862, until Sept. 15, 1865. I have copies of his discharge and some other papers such as pay vouchers, etc. He is buried in the Stepp Family Cemetery, located across from Long Fork Creek on Route 468 in Pike County, Ky. This is across from Nolan, WV.
