Elijah Hubert Judd was born on December 12, 1841 in Russell County Virginia.  He was the son of Increase Sumner Judd and Margaret Fields.

He was living in Russell County at the outbreak of the Civil War and may have served for a short time in the 72nd Virginia Militia.  During the war his entire family appears to have moved to George's Creek in Lawrence County.  Elijah and his two older brothers, John and William, enlisted into Company D of the 39th Kentucky Mounted Infantry on September 6, 1862.  All three of them served honorably and were mustered out with Company D in September of 1865.

After the war he married Francis "Fannie" Pack, a daughter of Isaac Pack & Jemima Borders of George's Creek.  Their children include Trinvilla, Hubert, James, Frank, Mary J., and Margaret among others.

Elijah died on May 1, 1921 in Lawrence County and was buried next to his wife Fannie in the Judd - Miller Cemetery near Louisa in Lawrence County.

Elijah and Fannie were the grandparents of Naomi & Wynona Judd and the subject of the song "Guardian Angels".
