Biograpy
Robert Newsome was born around 1839, probably near the present area of Virgie in Pike County Kentucky. He was the son of Frederick Newsome and Ansy Hall. Robert married Phena Brown on April 19, 1860 on Beaver Creek in Floyd County Kentucky. Phena was the daughter of Lewis and Lydia Hall Brown. They lived in Robinson Creek at the present Biscuit, Kentucky. Ten children were born to them there.


On November 16, 1862 Robert enrolled into the 39th Kentucky Infantry and was later assigned to Company K. He was honorably discharged and mustered out with the rest of his company on September 15, 1865.


Robert and his wife Phena are buried in the old Newsome Cemetery at Biscuit in Pike County.
