Pvt. Solomon Wallace, Company G

Pvt. Solomon "Saul or Sol" WALLACE (son of Simeon and Elizabeth (UMN) WALLACE of NC) was born about 1819 in Logan Co., VA (now WV). Solomon 1st married Lucinda DANIELS (daughter of Ezekiel DANIELS and Elizabeth BLANKENSHIP) sometime before 1843, most likely in Logan Co., VA. They had 6 children:

i. Martha. Born abt 1843 in KY.
ii. Richard. Born abt 1845 in KY.
*iii. Katherine "Kate or Katy" (~1846-aft 1900)
iv. James. Born abt 1847 in KY.
v. Apperson. Born abt 1849 in KY.
vi. Sarah. Born abt 1850 in KY.

Solomon received land grants in 1846 and 1855 in Pike Co KY and he and Lucinda moved from Logan Co., VA, to Pike Co., KY. They were the first WALLACE family to live in that county, first seen in the 1850 Pike Co., KY, Census. Lucinda died sometime between 1850 - 1855 and Solomon 2nd married Sarah “Sally” NEW (daughter of Edward NEW and Jane AUSTIN) on 8 March, 1856, in Logan Co., VA. They had 6 children:

i. Mary Ann. Born abt 1854 in VA.
ii. Elizabeth. Born abt 1856 in KY.
iii. William. Born on 10 Jul 1858 in Pike Co KY.
iv. John. Born on 5 Feb 1859 in Pike Co KY. John died in Lawrence Co KY (Charley) on 24 Jan 1931. John married Julia (UMN) WALLACE+.
v. Louisa. Born on 9 or 20 Jul 1862 in KY.
vi. Andrew. Born in May or June 1864 in KY.

In 1860, Solomon and Sarah were still living in Pike Co KY, still the only WALLACE family in that county. They eventually moved to Lawrence Co KY just before Solomon enlisted with the 39th KY Mounted Infantry on 24 Oct 1863. He was mustered into service on 29 Oct 1863 and served until admitted to the Regimental Hospital in Louisa, KY on 19 Jun 1864 for the treatment of Pneumonia. He died in Lawrence Co KY (Louisa) at the hospital on 26 Jun 1864, due to Typhoid Fever and Consumption. According to the Surgeon General’s report, the Station of the Regiment at the end of June 1864 was “Lexington, KY.” Solomon’s discharge papers granted him an Honorable Discharge due to death in the line of service. He was described as being 5’9” tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair.

His widow Sarah NEW-WALLACE, having just had their last child Andrew, and having 5 other mouths to feed, 2nd married to Pvt. James Asher MILLER, of Co. D, 14th KY Infantry, on 21 Jul 1864. They had 5 children: Edward B. “Ned”, Jennie, George, Rosa “Belle”, and Telitha “Lou” MILLER.
