1st Lt. John B. VanHoose


Biography

JOHN B. VANHOOSE Co. G 39th KY and Co. B 65th KY Militia Joined Co. G at Peach Orchard, Lawrence Co., KY on Oct. 17, 1862. He was mustered into the company on Jan. 12, 1863 and elected 1st Lt. On May 9, 1863 he resigned his commission due to a crippling disability. The regimental surgeon noted in his report that "contraction of all of the fingers of his right hand kept him from performing any military duty for three of the four months he was in service." He was officially discharged on May 29, 1863. When the 65th KY Militia was being formed he was on the list from May 21-June 21, 1864, On June 27, 1864 he was on a list of soldiers from the 65th KY that wanted to remove Col. Burgess Preston and hold open elections in August 1864. He was listed in the 1890 Johnson Co. Special Vet. Census. He is my 3rd Great-Uncle.
