3rd Sergeant William R. Dotson, Co. H



Bill Dotson was born around 1825, possibly in Tennessee. He enrolled on Dec. 27, 1862, with the Bakers, the Esteps, and Alfred Smith, at Peach Orchard. He was present with the regiment until Aug. 11, 1864, when he deserted (probably after the Battle of Louisa). The value of his gun was noted as $20.55. His clothing was valued at $13.41. He returned on Apr. 19, 1865, at Paintsville, KY, after the President's amnesty proclamation. He may have served with the Second Virginia State Line, Company E. His wife was Louisa Jane Estep.
