PLACENTA ZINE - Write something for this new punk parenting  zine that I'm putting together.  Come on!  You can do it!

****Cloth Diapers I love using cloth diapers with Eva.  They are only slightly less convenient than their landfill-filling counterparts.  Two good FAQ and review pages about cloth diapers are clothdiaperinfo.org and www.diaperpin.com.  I use the chinese prefolds from earthbaby and litewraps velcro diaper covers from babyworks.  The prefolds are really good quality although the customer service at earthbaby lately has been lacking.   I have heard mixed reviews about litewraps, but so far they are great, and we've had no leaks (and they are cheap and non-abrasive).  If you call the folks at babyworks, they may still have them in prints which are even better because they hide stains.   We use cut up recieving blankets and a spray bottle for wipes.

****Breastfeeding Breastfeeding really is the best.  If you haven't seen it yet, check out 101 Reasons to Breastfeed.   Also, look at Bad Ass Breastfeeding Babes, Lactivist, and, of course, La Leche League.  At first it was overwhelming to feed a baby that wanted to nurse 23 hours a day, but now she's slowed down and it's great.

****Parenting/Attachment Parenting Mango Mama has a great site about natural parenting with a wealth of information.  Dr.  Sears coined the term "attachment parenting", you may want to visit his site as well.  Mommy X, Hip Mama and the counterpart Girl Mom reassures me I'm not alone when I'm surrounded by moms twice my age and their SUVs.  The Punk Parenting page hasn't been updated in quite some time, but has a lot of links, some good and some not so good.  Oh, and I love my Maya Wrap baby sling, even if it does make me look like a hppie-nature-earth mama.

****Childbirth/Homebirth/Unassisted Birth Oh geez.  Where do I start?  The Birth of Grey Forest Walt is a really great birth story of an outside birth with midwives.  There's Eva's birth stories, of course from David and my perspective (born at home with a midwife).   I lived at Casa de Nacimiento for two months, a freestanding birth center, where I interned.    Laura Shanley's Unassisted Childbirth page has a lot of info on DIY homebirth, and birth stories.  There are many, many more sites of interest.

****Vegan Info The Vegetarian Resource Group, Vegan Action, the Vegan Society, Vegan Outreach and Vegan.com all have great info, although pretty redundant.  The VRG site is extremely comprehensive, so start there.  The Vegan Book Project is an Action for Animals site, and they have everything from books, buttons, pins, stickers to clothing on being or becoming vegan.  It's an excellent place, and all the shipping is free.  Vegetarian Baby and Child Magazine has info on raising children vegan, although it is not very comprehensive and not exclusively vegan.

****Austin, TX Monkeywrench Books, Sound Exchange Records, & Emo's are all places I like to go.  The Austin Activist Page has a lot of links.  Ecology Action recycles almost anything, when the city doesn't.  Food Not Bombs has a free vegan lunch on Wednesday afternoons.  Wheatsville is an independent grocery store/co-op.

****E-Groups/Message Boards Getting nerdy!  TexasUC is a group for those who live in Texas and are interested in Unassisted Childbirth.  Punk-Parents is a group for non-mainstream parents.  Not all of them are necessarily "punk" though (whatever that means).   I hear Mamatron has a good message board, although I haven't checked it out too much.  It was created when the Hip Mama message board shut down.
