Chronic Pain vs. Acute Pain!!

Chronic Pain vs. Acute Pain
Medical science divide pain into 2 major categories: chronic pain and acute pain.  "So what is the difference?" you ask. Well, chronic pain has no useful purpose.  It can range in intensity from a dull nagging ache, to intense, knife-stabbing pain that happens every time you perform a physical task such as picking up something or even bending over. While acute pain performs the useful purpose of warning you when something is harming or about to harm your body.  The kind of pain you get when you burn yourself touching a hot stove, cutting your finger with a knife or when your appendix is about to rupture - thses are all examples of acute pain.  So acute pain is a necessary defense mechanism which chronic pain just causes unnecessary suffering.   There are many causes of chronic pain.  It may be due to a mishap or more serious injury or back sprain or a serious infection, fibromyalgia, or a degenerative joint disease like arthritis.  It is reported that almost 3 million Canadians ( slightly more than 9% of the population) have chronic pain or discomfort that affects some - often most - of their daily activities.  A further 3% ( about one million) experience chronic pain or discomfort that doesn't genrally  affect their daily lives.  It is estimated that 3 out of 4 people will experience chronic pain at some time in their lives.    According to medical research, stress can be a major trigger for chronic pain.  Stress from work, or even daily activities can trigger off chronic pain.

Relaxation Response

It is a well known fact that when the body relaxes, tension and stress is reduced and your health improves and chronic pain is reduced.  In the past, people would take an aspirin or some drug to counteract stress.  But today, more and more people are turning to natural, alternative therapies to manage their stress.  Alternative therapies such as hypnotherapy, reflexology, massage and energy healing methods such as Reiki and Quantum Touch.  If you suffer from chronic pain and is looking for someone in the Edmonton to help, James Ang offers these safe and beneficial alternative therapies for pain and stress reduction and relaxation.  He is a registered Massage Therapist, certified Reflexologist, G-Jo Acupressure Master, Reiki Master and Quantum Touch Practitioner.  He combines all the modalites that he has learned to offer his clients a customised treatment conveyed in the form of massage, reflexology and energy healing.
