Mr. McLaughlin talking to General Hillier, Chief of Defence Staff | Mr. McLaughlin with wife and granddaughter | ||||||||||||
"On November 11th (Remembrance Day) the railway company put on a remembrance train from Halifax to Ottawa. I was fortunate to get space on that train and made the trip.
The rail company went all out for us remaining veterans. All the food and wine was supplied free to us and the help provided was awesome.
When we arrived in Ottawa we were booked in a Delta hotel and then bussed to the national war memorial. There I shook hands with our Prime Minister as well as our new Governer General. I met an old friend from my regiment who by the way was a prisoner of war following the infamous Dieppe Raid. Following all this we were en trained back to Halifax. A beautiful and memmorable one to say the least." |
