The Junior Post within the department plays a major role.  The Town of Vernon Fire Department started the Junior Program for many reasons.  For one, to aid firefighters and emergency personnel in various ways on the scene, between hooking up a hydrant to helping the auxillary with their activities.  Another reason is that it provides young adults a chance to experience work within the fire service.  They will be able to decide whether or not to persue a job within this amazing field.

Some duties that the juniors preform are the following: exterior firefighting work, aid with extrication, hydrant hook-up, ladder evolutions, work with various firefighting tools, etc.  They also educate youth on personal and fire safety at both safety day and day in the park.

On October 1st of 2000 the Junior Post joined the Boy Scouts of America making them Post 41.  The Boy Scouts are now promoting the Fire Service Explorers.

The Post meets every monday night at St. 141 (Vernon Center) from 1900 to 2100 hours.  They have been on many trips and activites.  The Post is currently following Firefighter I standards, yet some other skills will be learned throughout drilling.  Thanks for visiting our site and feel free to sign our guestbook. A special thanks to VernonFire.com!
