Rain Cover for Raincouver |
The ebike cyclist is wearing "river pants" (Mountain Equipment Coop aka MEC kayak wear, but can we worn at casual parties, too) which is quick-drying. I'm finally laughing (cycling) in the Wet Coast ! We have 8 months of rain in Vancouver (actually, Raincouver is a better word for this place.) Guess what - cyclists, scooterists, and motorcyclists all disappear when it rains! We have a problem, eh? TA-DA!!! One bike shop has a new invention, a crazy poncho(?) about the size of shower curtain, eh, with a clear-panel (for bike lights and gauges) that goes over both the rider and the bike. You un-zip holes for two side-mirrors, and zip close over the side mirrors -- the cylists and machine are now joined by the rain cape or poncho! It also allowed me to bike in freezing rain and -2* weather. The poncho goes over the front wheelcover. You become one unit, with your bike. Your hands are under the poncho. Results: I was testing this poncho(?) in the worst Super Soaker rain day, e-biking over huge puddles, etc, and I was d-r-y, yes, dry, at the end of it all! Amazing, but true, as the corny line goes. What keeps the front of the cape from being lifted up by the wind? Rain water "glues" it to the wheel cowl. It has flown up just once, downtown, due to wind gusts, when the wheel cowl was relatively dry. |

On the right is another rain cape, for regular (non-electric bikes) made in Vancouver, Canada (hooray!) and sold at The Bike Doctor bike shops |

The amazing scooter rain cape also allowed me to bike from East Van to West Van under the worst rainstorm, ebiking with a different electric scooter. |
