From the Bay Islands of Honduras, we sailed to the mainland, up a jungle river to a Lagoon Marina in LaCeiba. It was really fun to get up early and listen to the sounds on this jungle river. There were Hawoler monkies, frogs, and Many kinds of birds and other creatures.
From here, we traveled by buss to Copan, home of the famous Mayan ruines. Copan is an old town in a rural community of Honduras. Most of the men wear western boots and white straw cowboy hats and it feels like being in small town Missouri. The streets: however, are stone and the grades are steep. Very little English is spoken here and we relied on my limited Spanish to get us by.

Typical Copan Taxi
The major attractions here are Tucan Mountain and the Copan ruines. The beautiful bird pictures are mostly self explanitory; however, the ruines need further explanition.

The Myans covered up their old temples about every 52 years and built new, to the new Kings. There are tunnels that have been doug to access the prior temples and they seem to be mostly intact. Only two levels have been excivated and there is much more to be seen.
