WHAT IS TRUTH?

If you were asked what is the greatest characteristic of our day, you would probably have to answer apathy towards truth. Many are like the man who was asked if he knew the difference between IGNORANCE and APATHY. He said, "NO, and I don't care." Today there are many who are just not interested.

Yet, there are multitudes who are searching for truth in this hour and often ask the question, "What Is Truth?" Almost 2000 years ago Pilate, the governor of Judea, asked this same question during his dialogue with Jesus in John chapter 18 and today many people have still not found the answer.

Have you ever heard someone say, "Well, I should go to church, but there are so many different kinds, which teach so many different beliefs, that I would have no idea which one to attend? This is why this web site emphasizes returning to the Bible for our beliefs and religious practices, and stresses a restoration of Biblical Christianity.

Biblical Christianity refers to the doctrines and practices revealed in the New Testament. To know the truth, it is important to understand that the Word of God is truth (John 17:17). The New Testament teaches us that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Tim. 3:16). As God's Word, the Bible is complete and without error. Realizing the authority of God's Word it is important that we receive nothing but the truth and all the truth.

Many today credit the Bible as truth, but use code words and phrases such as "historic Christianity," "orthodox faith," and "historic interpretation" referring to ecumenical creeds, confessions, and definitions formulated by ecumenical councils during the fourth and fifth centuries as their benchmark or standards for their doctrinal positions, beliefs and practices. Knowingly or not, they ascribe to these creeds and confessions the same divine origin that cults give to their extra-biblical revelations. It seems God's Word is their standard for TRUTH only when it suits their purpose.

The Lord stated, "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it..."(Deut.  4:2). (Also see Rev. 22:18-20). No one has the right to change God's Word, or to choose one scripture and reject another to agree with his opinion. If any man's interpretation of a scripture clashes with another scripture, his interpretation is in error. For truth will never contradict itself. With proper interpretation all scripture will agree to produce a clear understanding of truth. "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" (2 Peter 1:20-21). We must not tamper with or distort in any way the truth (Gal. 1:6-9; Rev. 22:18-19).

There will be no judge or jury, only you. What we individually do regarding the truth is your and my decision. The Bereans were commended because, "they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). In the resurrection day, you will not be judged by what your mother believed, what your father taught you, or by what everyone else was doing at the time. You will be judged by the words of Jesus (John 12:48).

In light of the commission to "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:15-16), I am thankful for this opportunity to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Realizing that someday our photograph will fade and our garments will be moth eaten and our grave will settle to the level of the ground,  we will have to give an account to the great judge of all for every deed we have done and every word we have spoken. Remembering life at its longest is like the stay of a postman, like the glimpse of a passing ship, and like a quick sob in the night. My friend, you can count on fire to burn, water to be wet, ice to freeze, but you cannot count on tomorrow. Today is the day you have in hand, and what you do about what you read on this web site could determine your eternal destiny. Every calendar, every clock on the wall says today is the day of salvation. I ask you to take seriously the articles found on these pages and to "examine the scriptures to see if these things be so."

                                                                                                 Yours in Christ,

                                                                                                  Robert
