For years I have been wondering what everyone else thought about Hayley Mills. It took me awhile, but I have finally begun to discover exactly what I wanted to. Below are some quotes from various people about Hayley Mills and a list of famous people that are fans of Hayley, just like you and me. It's divided into three categories...celebrities of music, celebrities of film, and celebrities of journalism, and each category is alphabetized.

From the world of music...

• Emma Bunton - Baby Spice of the Spice Girls absolutely loves the movie Pollyanna...she lists it as one of her favourites.
• Eric Carr - The late drummer of the rock group KISS, Eric Carr, adored Hayley Mills. He always had a huge crush on her (even when he was in Kiss), and he Loved Pollyanna. Eric passed away from cancer in 1991.
• Olivia Newton-John - Did you know that the first contest Olivia won was a Hayley Mills look alike contest?

• Joanna Barnes - In 1961, Joanna Barnes starred as the unforgetable Vicki Robinson in "The Parent Trap." In a letter that my sister received from Ms. Barnes, she said, "...I think she's one of the sweetest people in the world."
• Carrie Kei Heim - Carrie Kei Heim, who played Hayley's daughter Nikki Ferris in "The Parent Trap II", had this to say about her co-star: "Hayley Mills was wonderful to work with, she is one of the kindest, most delightful people I've ever met." • Dean Jones - When "That Darn Cat" was produced in 1965, Hayley Mills, then in the blush of teenhood and long past her Pollyanna days, was wrapping up her Disney career juast as Dean Jones was starting his. He had this to say about his costar, Hayley Mills. "I loved her. Her charm really energized the screen."
• Kevin Kline - I've heard from several people that Kevin Kline began acting because of Hayley. Apparently he was quite a devoted fan as a young man.
• Janet Leigh - In a letter that I wrote to Janet Leigh (of "Psycho" fame), I mentioned that Hayley Mills was my favorite actresss. Out beside this, she wrote, "me too."
• Dorothy McGuire - In 1963, Dorothy McGuire and Hayley Mills starred together in "Summer Magic." In a letter that my sister received, Dorothy McGuire gushed, "Hayley Mills was a very gifted young lady and came from a brilliant acting family. It was a pleasure working with her famous father also. Sorry, it's too many years ago to come up with any anecdotes - just a lovely experience."
• Maureen O'Hara - "She was a totally professional young lady...she charms and delights us in ordinary life and she knows how to transfer that wonderful gift God gave her to film."
• Nancy Olsen - "She was terribly earnest and she incorporated what Pollyanna was feeling."
• John Sayles - (director of "Roan Inish") - “...and I love Hayley Mills. Among Sayles' inspirations for Roan Inish were The Black Stallion and "those pre-Disney Hayley Mills movies like Tiger Bay. The biggest risk of this movie was that it had a large part for a 10-year-old you don't know, and we had no Hayley Mills or Jodie Foster. We had to find the kid."
• Eli Wallach - In 1964, Eli Wallach and Hayley Mills starred together in the film "The Moon-Spinners." In a letter that I received from Mr. Wallach, he wrote the following. "Hayley was a delight to work with, also Peter McEnery, Joan Greenwood, and Irene Papas. It was a thoroughly enjoyable film to work on and I got an education on Crete - and the unbelievably beautiful ruins on the Island."

It reads as follows: “Casting call. The Parent Trap. We are seeking a very special 10 to 12 year old girl to play the leading roles of twins (one American and one British) in Walt Disney Pictures’ remake of The Parent Trap. She must be appealing, charismatic, funny, and smart.”

  I remember going to see the film with my best friend at our local theater in Edinburgh, Scotland. We were the right age for its story lines--one of which was kids who were able to bring their split-up parents back together. ... And then there was its star, Hayley Mills, who played both twins and carried the movie not only as if she had been born for the role, but as if she were one of us--which is also why she meant so much to us. She wasn’t a Miss Priss done up in bows, to be seen and not heard. Compared to everything else we were witnessing in teen movies, the double character that Hayley Mills played was doubly divine, because she was a doer times two.

  When I read that a remake of the original “Parent Trap” was in the works, I longed to find out more about the woman who had once embodied all that it stood for. I suspected that what she had to say would have meaning for all of our readers, not just those who were around when the film was first released, or who have seen it since on TV, where it is shown often. And indeed, our talk with Hayley Mills reveals someone who has had the kind of life that doesn’t conform to the Hollywood formula--such as a marriage that did not fit the “happily ever after” ideal. Although she tells it with enormous grace, what Mills has to say is a reminder that the notion of sheltering people through ignorance of what’s really out there in the world does not service to anyone.
