3/16/2005 - My hearing is slowly starting to return to normal after a brief overdose of metal. Doing all this recording was taking its toll on my eardrums. I've been 'giving it a rest' for the past few days, but I returned to work tonight, and it seems fine...for now...the Motorhead concert in Cleveland is Friday night! If you want a copy of the new album when it's finally pressed up, e-mail me with your address and I'll mail one to you. rkamen@earthlink.net Put something like "new album" in the subject line. Don't worry if you get a 'suspect email' notification. I'll add you in ASAP. Gotta block the spam, ya know? Thanks again for comin' back! ~Rob |
3/30/2005 - Thanks for checking back. The recording is all done! Today I finished touching up a few things, got the mix all done and mastered the recording. Also did some more work on the album cover. Hope you all dig it. I think it sounds pretty hot, considering it was all done right in my house. After I sleep on the artwork, I'm gonna send it out to get pressed up. The first 100 copies are being given away for free, so contact me if ya need one. ~Rob |
4/18/2005 - Bad news / good news: Madness Of Obsession is delayed about a week. It was scheduled to be shipped back from the pressing plant tomorrow, but I discovered a slight boo-boo in the tray card at the last minute. Fortunately, I caught it in time, just under the wire before they shrink wrapped all the discs! I just sent them the corrected artwork, and now, the titles on the spine of the jewel case will line up properly! So, bad that it will be a bit delayed, good that it will look right! Thanks again for checking back! ~Rob |
4/23/2005 - I got the CD's back from DiskFaktory today! I'm blown away by how good it came out, as far as the packaging goes. So, I'd highly reccomend DiskFaktory if you're making a CD. I gave it a thorough listen-through and checked for spelling errors one last time, and it checks out OK. So let me know if you want a copy! I know I said it's gonna be FREE, but I gotta ask for $5 to cover shipping and packaging, OK? So, here's the contact info if ya want one: Rob Kamen 2120 Millsboro Rd Mansfield Ohio 44906 Send cleverly concealed cash, check or money order. If you want, I'll autograph and number it for ya, just ask. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for checking my news page again! ~Rob |
5/16/2005 - New Interview! I recently had a conversation (via email) with Christopher Bell-Boudreaux of Hollywood All Access magazine. He is also known to some as the lead guitarist of Prime Evil Council. He asked some really good questions, and I thought it would be a good read for everyone, so I put it up on the site. Check it out by clicking HERE. Thanks again for checking back! ~Rob |
5/22/2005 - I have just been informed that Funeral For A Fiend will be the opening track on an upcoming Horror Punk CD compilation! The CD will also feature a song by legendary Prime Evil Council and a song that I co-wrote with Chris Newman called Vampire Girl. It is rumored that this CD will be available in some branches of Hot Topic , which is one of my favorite stores. Horror Punk also makes movies and has an interesting website that you can check out by clicking HERE. Thanks again to Christopher Bell-Boudreaux for the connection to this! In other news, I added more tunes and updated the Music page. Also updated the index page to make it look a little neater. See ya next time! Thanks for checking my News page. ~Rob |
6-11-2005 - The Rob Kamen Download dot com page for Madness Of Obsession is screaming up the charts! See pic on the right. So far, there are four tunes available for download in high quality 198kbps MP3 format. As usual, absolutely free! It seems that people are eating them up. 147 total downloads in just 3 weeks, no ads or propiganda. Album rock is not dead after all, is it, now? Click the chart to go to my Download dot com page! Other fun facts: People have been inquiring about the Hammond Organ sound on track 3, Rock Song. It is actually a Roland XP-50, my only keyboard. This synth has slots in the bottom for 4 expansion cards, and of course, it's fully loaded. The Hammond sound comes from the Keyboards Of The 60's And 70's card, which contains about 50 or so Hammond waveform samples. To give it a little extra pizazz, I ran the track through Wave's "Enigma" effect DX plug-in before the final mixdown. Thanks again for checkin' back on the news page! ~Rob |
6-14-2005 - Getting lots of downloads and listed as Featured Artist on download.com. In the top of the album rock category! How exciting. ~Rob |
7-3-2005 - Visit my store! I added a bunch of new merchandise and propiganda to go along with the release of Madness Of Obsession, including a special edition CD, buttons, stickers, and much more! You can also pick up Bass Of Spades stuff there, too. Click Here to shop! |
10-02-2005-????Been jamming with John Warrington a bit lately. He's gotta be the most kick ass drummer in Ohio! We just roll the tape and improv whatever comes to mind. Nothing planned in advance. Anyway, the last couple of jams have been so incredible that I'm inspired to begin a new album based on those jams! I've been doing triple duty, handling the guitar, keys, and the engineering hat all at the same time. Juggling? Yes! But to make it easier, I just picked up something called a Roland PK-5A, which is a keyboard I can play with my feet. What else would you expect from me? Well, we got several hours on tape to work with. I think this is going to be a really great album when it's done. The music is heavy and bluesy, doomy and melodic. Reminds me of Floyd, Yngwie, Vai, Sabbath, Down, and Trouble. And Rush! I gotta come up with some lyrics. I know I haven't updated this page in a while, but I'll try to do a better job of keeping you posted. Thanks again for checking the news page! ~Rob |
4-23-2006 - Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I updated this page for you. Sorry about that! But thanks for coming back! Well, what's new? Say hello to my new baby, Ian! Born 3/27/2006, wieghing 9 Lbs, 9 Oz, a big puppy! He has big bass player hands, just like his dad. In the meantime, between feedings and diaper changes, I'm still working hard on the new album, so don't despair! No estimate of a release date, yet. But it's progressing nicely. I have a bunch of songs, really GOOD songs, too! I'll be including a special song that I wrote as a tribute to the late guitarist of Voivod, Piggy. Also, there will be some really HOT improv jams from drummer John W and I, some as-is and others with overdubbed instruments added in. And there will be several songs that run over 7 minutes, my favorite! In other news, I purchased a Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Strat, with a retroactive pay raise I got from my day job, that will be featured on the upcoming album. Also, a new bass direct box from Behringer, and I figured out some new kick drum miking techniques (from watching C.O.C with Stanton Moore in concert!) and a new way to transfer tracks to the computer from the recording machine, so the new disc should have an even better sound than the last one. Thanks again for checking back, hope to see you soon! ~Rob |

11-17-2006 - Hi again! Long time since the last update, sorry! Been real busy with the baby. Good news about that is he is taking a liking to musical instruments. He loves to bounce on daddy's knee as I kick the bass drum pedal, and he recently found an interest in keyboards and chewing on mommy's Fender P-bass. Ian is such a cutie! Now, for some more good news: I uploaded two smokin' hot new tunes to the MUSIC page! Zombeat is an instrumental I kinda schlapped together, but in the end, it came out really good. Features my SG guitar with a massive, "Iommi-meets-Vai-VanHalen-meets-Down" type of sound. Whew! This would also be the first recording on which I tune the guitar down to low B. The second song is A Tribute To Voivod, inspired by the band and their late guitarist, Denis "Piggy" D'Amour. Piggy was a big inspiration to me because he had a uniquely creative approach to the guitar. I left this one instrumental, although I did write words for it. It just sounded better without vocals. Maybe another, vocalized version will be in the future. This song features the incredible John Warrington on the drums. As usual, I want to thank you for checking back. Enjoy the tunes! More to come and hopefully, a full album soooooon! ~Rob |
