Play as one of the crew in the Mighty Eighth Force, flying beside 11* other bombers in close formation. Or, play as one of the li'l friends who escorted & accompanied the B-17s on their missions, or as a fighter who had to scramble to bring these bombers down.
All in all a very good game, inspired by its first on the Amiga & PC.
Good graphics & good sound with great gameplay make this all very realistic. A Huge improvement to its original.

Unfortunately though, it's been brought out with quite a few bugs, and the release of the first patch apparently didn't help a few users.
The 2nd official patch has now been released and can be found at the Bombs-Away site.

* - Depending on your system, the amount can vary (apparently). Though 12 B-17s in one flight is maximum as far as I know.

The 2 screenshots are 'pre-patched' version shots of the game. The patch adds the markings the bombers get when successfully completing a mission, and the tally of fighter planes shot down.
The patch also fixes CTD (Crash To Desktop) and freeze problems.
"The B-17 Flying Fortress remains a legend in the history of World War 2. It was the bomber that struck deep into occupied Europe, in daylight. Taking on the might of the Luftwaffe, braving ferocious German defences and hitting on strategic targets with unparalleled precision. It was the bomber that could take massive structural damage and still manage to return home. It was the bomber that held 10 fly boys and bound them into a tough fighting unit.
This is the story of the Mighty Eighth, the 8h Army Air Force who flew the favoured flying fortress' in perilous missions. But it is also the story of the escort fighters, the li'l friends who accompanied them on their perilous missions, and that of the brave luftwaffe pilots who attacked those massive formations in the air."

Overall, a very well made game. I recommend it to anyone who are into flight sims. The only drawback is that it may not work on your machine properly. It didn't for me, but after an upgrade, it's been fine.
