Club History

The origins of the club go back to the early 1970's when a group of people with origins in Roccamorice began to meet with the purpose of starting up a social club for people who came from La Rocca.The motivation was many-fold,including pride in the village and a desire to put it on the map so to speak here in the Toronto area.Many people  were being invited to the dances and other celebrations of many social clubs for people from various towns and villages from Italy, so why not something specifically for the people of Roccamorice. Another reason was the fear some of the Roccalani had that their children would grow up knowing nothing about their parents'origins. Plus there were a number of Roccalani who had been successful in business and wished to contribute something to the community of Paesani.     The main people invoved in those early days were the following: Peter D'Angelo , Biase Di Giovanni ( who owned and operated the Jane and 7 Banquet Hall  at that time), Italo (Pasquale) Rosati ( owner of Mastro Salami ), Fred Giansante; ( Brokers' Trust Insurance ), Sandy D'Angelo (  a dance instructor at the time ), Dan Di Rocco ( a high school teacher at that time).    Memberships are $25.00 and renewed every November. The first event of the year is the New Year's Gala, followed by the Festa di Sant'Antonio in mid-January. This has become our most popular event with over 600 people attending. It is a dinner-dance where immmediately after dinner, volunteer actors recreate the scene of the temptation of Sant'Antonio.    The next big event takes place usually in mid-summer. It is the annual pinic where all the paesani meet to play cards, bocce tournaments, and games for the children. The Club provides lunch for all who attend. Usually there is some form of music for all to enjoy. Usually the picnic is combined with the Festa di San Bartolomeo and a mass is held in the church with accompanying procession.
