Here you will see my latest project, a deep hollow bowl made from Cherry, I cut the trunk down over 4 years ago, and waxed the ends for storage, I also stood it in a tray of Rock Salt for almost 9 Month to try and give the timber some figure, and it looks like it worked, which I am more than pleased
As you can see from the picture: I first decided on the shape I wanted, I did  not want to loose too much of the log ,so I settled on a Ball shape, this will give me a bowl of around 8" in hight
Then came the job of hollowing it out, I have just bought myself a "Rolly Munroe Articulated Deep Hollowing Tool" and quite a piece of equipment it is, the Cherry wasn't completly dry inside but that didn't stop the hollowing tool doing it's job
After finishing the hollowing, I reversed the bowl and shaped the bottom, you can see the extent of the "Spalting" on the bare wood before applying a coat of  polish
Here you see the base after about 4 coats of friction polish
And here you see the finished bowl, crowned with a pewter rose bowl lid
The finished bowl, 8" in hight and 6" wide
