Summary: Beyblade is a sport in which competitors use razor-bladed tops that are spun in dishes. The winner is the one who can knock his opponent’s top, or blade, out of the dish and make it stop spinning. Sometimes there are what the show calls “Bit-beasts”, creatures made of energy, that inhabit the blades. The Bit-beasts give the top extra power. The series focuses on a team of players known as the Blade-breakers. The members are: Tyson, an energetic and cocky kid; Kenny (“Chief”), the brains of the team; Rai, a boy who’s traveled around the world learning his craft; Max, a hyperactive player who has a cheerful attitude; and Kai, the team captain, who’s kind of ant-social.
The Good: The series is a real treat for kids. It’s a lot of fun and pretty funny at times.
The Bad: ABC-Family really overplays the show, like they do with all their kids shows.
Offensive Material: None. This is one of the safest anime around.
My Rating (out of 4): 3.5
Note: This series is based on a toy line. There’s also a manga out as well.
