Title: Card Captor Sakura

Genre: Fantasy/Superhero

Creator/Studio: CLAMP/Madhouse

Distributor: Geneon

Summary: When Sakura opens the book of the Clow, several cards fly out, along with a tiny winged teddy-bear like creature named Kero-chan. He tells Sakura that he is the cards’ guardian and that she has been chosen to retrieve them and keep their powers from being used for evil.

The Good: Lots of magic and intrigue. Sakura is a great heroine and Kero-chan is a hilarious sidekick.

The Bad: The 4kids version was considered the most butchered anime series by many fans. It even went so far as to attempt to eliminate all traces of Japanese culture, including such inane things as food and kanji. I’m not sure if the Geneon version is the original or not. I doubt it since they also carry the movies, and those didn’t even air on television.

Offensive Material: Magic is used very often in the series. I’m not sure what is on the DVD that wasn’t on TV, other than what I was told.

Overall: If you like Sailor Moon, Spirited Away, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, I recommend this series. It’s cute and a real treat. My Review: 3.0 Age Rating: A Note: Card Captor Sakura aired on WB network for two seasons, but on TV its title was Cardcaptors. There are two movies in addition to the DVD’s. It lasted for 70 episodes. Tokyopop published a manga as well. CLAMP is a collaboration of four female artists and is responsible for many fan-favorites, including Chobits and X. Cardcaptors was made by Madhouse, who also made Trigun, Gungrave, Ninja Scroll, and the Animatrix short, "Program".
