Title: Cromartie High

Genre: Comedy

Creator/Studio: Eiji Nonaka/Production I.G.

DVD Info: 24 episodes, 6 DVD's

Summary: Welcome to Cromartie High, the world's strangest high school. Thugs roam the halls, and that's not all. There's also a gorilla, (hey, you tell him he smells bad and doesn't belong here!), a mechanically inept robot named Mechazawa, and Freddie, who bears a striking resemblance to Freddie Mercury, the deceased lead singer of the rock group Queen, famous for the sports anthem "We Will Rock You/We are the Champions".

The Good: "The guys in this anime are delinquents. Do not, under any circumstances, imitate what they do. I mean it, it's a bad idea!" That's the humorous introduction the main character says at the beginning of each short. There are some relatively funny moments.

The Bad: The funny stuff's few and far between. The show's pretty stupid and pointless.

Offensive Material: Rough language. I heard the f-word a few times.

Overall: Maybe the manga's better, but I'm not sure. At any rate, it's hard to believe this is from the same studio as Ghost in the Shell's from.

My Review: 2.0 Category: C

Comment: Cromartie High is also available from ADV as a manga. Production I.G. also made Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, and IGPX.
