Title: Dragonball

Genre: Sci-fi/Fantasy

Creator/Studio: Akira Toriyama/Toei

DVD Info: 153 episodes, 10 DVD's

Summary: Meet Goku, one of the last surviving members of an alien species called the Saiyans, known throughout the universe for their fighting prowess. Like all Saiyans, he resembled humans with the notable exception of a tail that causes him to become a gorilla at night. He meets a girl named Bulma, and helped her look for the legendary Dragonballs. It is said that if you find seven and assemble them correctly, they will summon the magical dragon Shen Long, who will grant you one wish. However, this only happens annually. The Good: Goku and all his friends are admirable characters who are willing to sacrifice themselves for their cause.

The Bad: The show can move very slowly. You will need patience to enjoy it.

Offensive Material: The series is somewhat violent.

Overall: This show is a good place to start if you’re new to anime. Its overwhelming popularity makes it somewhat overrated, though.

My Review: 2.5 Category: B (Parental Guidance)

Note: This is the first of a trilogy: Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT. Dragonball lasted for 168 episodes. Viz Communications published the manga it was based on. Toei Studios also animated: Sailor Moon, Ultimate Muscle, Zatch Bell and many others.
