Summary: Ed Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist, discovers that our world and his own are in a state of turmoil and may collide. Can he prevent the worlds from preventing and the Nazis from discovering his world's alchemic secrets?
The Good: Since the anime ended in a cliffhanger, I was curious about what would happen now that Ed would be unable to use alchemy. The story is well told and I love the brushes with history, like the rise of the Nazis and including real-life movie maker Fritz Lang. I also liked the fact that Ed keeps meeting people who remind him of his home world. Also, like the series, the movie brings in issues of racism and religious prejudice. The music is great and the animation is excellent and somewhat richer than the series.
The Bad: Because it is a sequel, you need some knowledge of the series. Also, not to spoil things, but the ending is anti-climatic.
Offensive Material: Alchemy is a central plot point, as well as Nazism.
Overall: This is a great companion to the anime. Any fan of the anime or manga should check it out.
My Review: 4.0 Category: C
Comment: This is a sequel to the TV series. Other Bones titles include Cowboy Bebop, Scrapped Princess, and RahXephon. There is also a Fullmetal Alchemist manga available from Viz.
