Summary: During the Middle Ages, a "science" called alchemy was invented. It involved changing the properties of metals. In Full Metal Alchemist, this science actually exists. It stars Ed Elric, who's looking for the legendary Philosopher's Stone in order to replace his missing limbs and his younger brother Alphonse's body. They lost them in an ill-fated attempt to resurrect their dead mother. Ed is recruited into the military by Roy Mustang (aka "Fire Alchemist.
The Good: This is definitely a sad show. It's truly a unique concept. It has great animation, and I love the relationship between Ed and Alphonse.
The Bad: The concept is difficult to comprehend at first. I didn't like Alphonse's voice, but it might sound better in the subtitled version.
Offensive Material: Usage of magic, mild language, mildly graphic violence.
Overall: This is a great series! I can't wait for the manga to come over here! Please bring it here, distributors! Full Metal Alchemist is a great tragic fantasy.
My Review: 4.0
Category: C Note: This is based on the manga of the same name published by Square Enix (yes, the home of Final Fantasy.) A movie set two years after the series is in the works. Other titles created by the Bones Studio include Cowboy Bebop, RahXephon, and Wolf's Rain.
