Title: Gungrave
Genre: Sci-fi
Creator: Yasuhiro Nightow
Company: Geneon
DVD Info: 26 episodes, 7 volumes
Summary: Brandon Heat, a.k.a. Beyond-the-Grave, is supposed to be dead. But he's back! See, he and his pal Harry had joined the Millenion crime syndicate, intending to move up through its spheres of influence. But Brandon was betrayed by Harry and got killed. Now he's returned to take down Millenion and their undead minions. Because if he's going to go to Hell, he might as well take a few demons with him.
The Good: Interesting concept that's paced nicely. Instead of going with Brandon hunting demons, they show his road to ruin first, then go to the demon-busting stuff.
The Bad: If you're going in expecting the laugh riot Trigun was, forget it. No laughs here.
Offensive Material: Mildly graphic violence and language. Brief nudity in episode 1. Also, Brandon Heat is not exactly saintly.
Overall: Gungrave is very different from Trigun. It's a mafia-themed story filled with action and intrigue.
My Review: 3.0 Category: C (Caution)
Note: Yasuhiro Nightow also created Trigun. A Gungrave game for the PS2 called Gungrave: Overdose is available.
