Movie: Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
Genre: Sci-fi
Running Time: Approximately 1 hour and a half
Creator: Yoshiyuki Tomino
Distributors: Bandai/Sunrise
Rating: TV-Yy (FV)
Summary: After an intergalactic war, the Gundam Wing pilots are ready for peace and have even sent their Gundam mechs (robots) to the sun to be melted. Unfortunately, the Barton Foundation wants to start another war and is using Mariemaia Kushrinada as a puppet ruler. The Gundam Wing pilots must stop the war before things get worse. Making things difficult is the fact that two pilots, Wu Fei and Trowa, have defected to the enemy’s army.
The Good: Lots of action here. The movie speaks volumes about the futility of war and our never-ending quest for peace.
The Bad: Unless you’ve watched the Gundam Wing TV series, you might have difficulty watching the movie. However, there are flashbacks that are somewhat helpful.
Offensive Material: There is a fair amount of violence, mostly of the big robot variety. Mariemaia does get shot close to the end, but winds up paralyzed in the legs rather than dead.
Overall: This is a great closing to one of the greatest anime series of all time, Gundam Wing. If you like the Gundam shows, you’ll love this movie.
My Rating (out of 4): 3.5
Note: This is an epilogue to the fan favorite series Gundam Wing. There are four manga titles published by Tokyopop: Gundam Wing, Gundam Wing: Battlefield of Pacifists, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, and Gundam Wing: The Last Outpost.
