Movie: Kiki’s Delivery Service
Genre: Fantasy
Creator: Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi
Distributors: Buena Vista
Running Time: 1 hour, 43 minutes
Summary: Kiki (voice of Kirsten Dunst) is a witch who has just turned 13. As part of tradition, she travels away from home for a year to train and takes her talking cat Gigi (voice of Phil Hartman). She meets a baker named Osono (voice of Debbie Reynolds), who allows her to live with her and helps her start a delivery service. She also meets a boy named Tombo (voice of Matthew Lawrence) and a painter named Ursula (voice of Janeane Garofalo).
The Good: A beautiful and innocent picture. A great film to start with for budding anime fans.
The Bad: It’s kind of slow at times.
Offensive Material: Despite the fact that Kiki is a witch, the only thing she does is fly on her broom. There’s no violence or bad language.
Overall: A great film from Hayao Miyazaki, who’s one of Japan’s best directors.
My Rating (out of 4): 3.5 Age Rating: A (All Audiences)
Note: Hayao Miyazaki has also created Spirited Away, Princess Mononke, Castle In the Sky, and My Neighbor Totoro
