Tite: Paranoia Agent
Genre: Mystery/Suspense
Creator/Studio: Satoshi Kon/Madhouse
Company: Geneon
DVD Info: 13 episodes, 4 volumes
Summary: A criminal known as the Lil' Slugger is beating people up with an aluminum baseball bat. But who is he/she and what's the motive? Ah, now that would be telling!
The Good: This is a suspensful anime. By the time I got to episode 5, I was already starting a list of possible suspects. I love mysteries, and this one's a chiller. Madhouse's animation is good, and I love the opening's bone-chilling irony.
The Bad: WIth no admireable characters, it's difficult to care about anyone. I hate that stuffed animal Maromi.
Offensive Material: Graphic violence and mild language. Some usage of tobacco. One of the victioms is a prostitute with a split personality.
Overall:Paranoia Agent hits a home run. (sorry) If you like Alfred Hitchcock films or Boogiepop Phantom, it deserves a look.
My Review: 3.0
Category: D (Danger. Adults only)
Note: Satoshi Kon also created Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers. Madhouse Studios' credits include Cardcaptors, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Gungrave, and the Animatrix short "Program".
