Title: Princess Mononoke

Genre: Fantasy/Historical Fiction

Company: Miramax

DVD Info: 2 hours, 14 minutes

Summary: In ancient Japan, a man cursed by a demon is forced into exile. During his travels, he meets heartless people with no regard for the well-being of nature and a young girl raised by wolves.

The Good: Although this is out of character for Miyazaki, it still has his beautiful trademark style. Miramax did an excellent job with the dub, getting Billy Bob Thorton and Keith David (one of my fave VAs)involved, among others. The Bad: It's slow, but that's not really a minus here. It's also preachy.

Offensive Material: For Miyazaki, this is rather graphic. Also, there are references to Japanese folklore and usage of magic.

Overall: Another Miyazaki masterpiece! My only beef is that Miyazaki makes it really difficult to pick a favorite. I just wish we could still do preachy stuff like this and make it entertaining. But all too often, American filmmakers tend to overdo the message.

My Review: 4.0 Category
