Title: Serial Experiments Lain

Genre: Sci-fi/Drama

Creator/Studio: Yoshitoshi ABe/Madhouse

Company: Geneon

DVD Info: 13 episodes, 4 DVD's.

Summary: Here goes. A girl named Lain receives an e-mail from a classmate who recently committed suicide. When her father gives her a new computer, she uses it to explore the "wired" (read: Internet) and find out what happened to her friend. What happens next comprises one of the strangest anime titles ever made. And one of the saddest.

The Good: Beautiful artwork. The story just dares you to figure it out and every moment is sheer brilliance. The Bad: It can be difficult to understand, especially in one sitting. It's very confusing.

Offensive Material: Some graphic violence and disturbing imagery. One episode has a scene with drug abuse in it.

Overall: This anime is weird! It's hard to understand at times. Just sit back and be mystified.

My Review: 4.0 Category: C (Caution. Not recommended for those under age 12)

Note: Yoshitoshi ABe also created Haibane Renmei and Tehnolyze.
