Title: Tenchi In Tokyo
Genre: Sci-fi/Romance
Rating: TV-Y7 (FV)
Airs:International Channel
Company: Geneon
DVD Info: 8 DVD’s, 26 episodes
Creator: Kajishima Masaki
Summary: This time around, Tenchi now lives in Tokyo, and is studying to be a Shinto priest. The girls must now adjust to not being able to have him around to fight over anymore. To make matters worse, a new girl named Sakura has moved in on their turf, and she seems to be connected to a mysterious woman named Yuli. What exactly is the connection? Ah, that would be telling.
The Good: Okay, there’s the usual Tenchi Muyo humor, but there’s not much good in this series.
The Bad: Where to begin? The animation is of poorer quality than the previous versions. Most of the characters are not treated properly, and the biggest insult: Ryo-oki is now transforming into some mechanical cat-like monstrosity! In short, the Tenchi Muyo saga jumps the shark with this series.
Offensive Material: Just the usual violence and references to Shintoism. Nothing else.
Overall: This is the absolute worst Tenchi series. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Lots of otakus agree that this series stinks. I only recommend it to die-hard Tenchi fans who’ll watch anything featuring these characters.
My Review: (out of 4): 2.5 Age Rating: A (all ages)
Note: This is the third installment in the Tenchi Muyo saga. It consists of three cartoons: the Tenchi Muyo! OVA’s, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo. There are also 3 movies: Tenchi Muyo the Movie, Tenchi Muyo in Love, and Tenchi Forever. The same cast also appears in the series Pretty Sammy, a parody of Sailor Moon. Geneon has added all the Tenchi Muyo titles to its Signature Series line. Viz publishes the graphic novel No Need For Tenchi!, which inspired the saga. Masaki also created Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure
