Genre: Sci-fi/Drama
Creator/Studio: Makoto Shinkai/Comix Wave
Company: ADV
Running Time: 25 minutes
Summary: Two children, Nobaru and Nagamine, live on Earth in the middle of an intergalactic war between humans and an alien race known as the Tarsians. Nagamine's training for the war has caused her to grow apart from Nobaru. She begins to wonder if their relationship will be able to survive.
The Good: The animation is very nice, with some beautiful computer graphics. It's hard to believe all the animation was done by one person. The music sets the tone very well, it's some of the best music I've heard in an anime.
The Bad: It's over before you know it.
Offensive Material: Some intergalactic battles, but that's it. Overall: At 25 minutes, Voices of a Distant Star is short, but what we get is a sweet, beautiful work of art. It is a symphony of images and music. I highly recommend it.
My Review: 3.5 Category: B (Borderline. Parental Guidance suggested)
Note: Makoto Shinkai also created The Place Promised in Our Early Days. This DVD also contains a 5-minute short called "She and Her Cat", which is appropriate for all ages.
