Title:Brigadoon
Genre:Fantasy/Sci-fi
Creator:Yoshimoto Yonetari (art by Nozomi Watase)
Publisher:Tokyopop
Summary:Marin Asagi is a 13-year-old orphan living in an alternate version of Tokyo in the 1970's. Because of her status, she is often picked on by other students. Her only friend is Moe, a girl who's not even supposed to be friends with Marin because her mother doesn't want her associating with "those people." That all changes when she meets a mechanical swordsman named Melan Blue, who is to protect her from monomakia--living weapons bent on destroying her. If she doesn't survive, the floating city of Brigadoon will collide with Earth. What is Marin's role in all this? Why is Melan so intent on protecting her? You'll have to read this yourself to find out!
The GoodThe artwork is really nice. Marin is pretty cute and easy to identify with. The plot is intriguing, with some great surprises.
The Bad:Some slowdown seems necessary.
Offensive Material:There's a few brief nude shots, but nothing erotically intended. Some mild language and violence.
Overall:
This is a very cute story with lots of heart. It's very well-written and drawn.
My Rating:(out of 4)3.5Age Rating: B (Borderline. Parental Guidance suggested.)
Note:This manga is limited to two issues. It's based on the anime Brigadoon, available in 6 volumes from Tokyopop. Yonetari is also the creator of Betterman.
