Title: Great Teacher Onizuka
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Creator: Tohru Fujisawa
Company: Tokyopop
Publisher Info: 25 volumes, Authentic Format (right/left)
Summary: Eichiro Onizuka is a substitute teacher. There are four problems, though:
The Good: Some decent artwork and a funny story. Onizuka's goals may not be that altruistic (he only wants to be a teacher in order to look up girls' skirts), but he does attempt to take his job somewhat seriously.
The Bad: Onizuka isn't 100% admirable. This is no Dead Poets Society or Dangerous Minds.
Offensive Material: Mild language, sexual material, and mild violence.
Overall: Don't expect an uplifting story about a teacher trying to reach his students. Great Teacher Onizuka doesn't quite have that. However, the story is well-told and very amusing.
My Review: 3.0 Category: D (Danger. Not for children or teens)
Comments: Tokyopop carries the anime, but FUNimation has also acquired the license as well. Fujisawa has also created Rose Hip Rose and a Great Teacher Onizuka prequel called GTO: The Early Years--Shonan Jinai Gumi.
